On Nov. 20, the Stanton College Preparatory School Varsity Boys soccer team secured a strong victory against Samuel W. Wolfson High School with a score of 0-3, bringing their record to 2 wins and 1 loss.

For most of the first half, the two schools remained tied at 0-0, with neither team letting up. In the first few minutes of the game, senior midfielder Anish Gude attempted the Blue Devils’ first goal, missing by margins. Senior forward James Parks was able to counter this by scoring shortly after.

There was a slight shift in the first half as the Wolfpack pressed forwards, putting pressure on the Blue Devils. However, Stanton’s senior defenders Avi Rawal and Dhruv Garud effectively guarded the home goal, and junior goalkeeper Anthony Hernandez was able to block all attempts by the Wolfpack.

In the second half, senior midfielders Ethan Breslin and Leonard Spears attempted to secure more goals for the Blue Devils. This was successful, through Spears’ solid penalty kick and senior forward Abdul Musa’s header, scoring two consecutive goals, putting the score at 0-3.

“We played really good [tonight],” said Spears. “[It] was one of the best games we’ve played so far, and we will continue to win as many games as possible throughout the rest of the season.”

Although the varsity team was able to dominate the Wolfpack, the junior varsity team narrowly lost their game with a score of 1-0. The two JV teams remained tied through the first half and most of the second, with sophomore Lukas Howland attempting several unsuccessful shots.

In the second half, the Wolfpack scored the first and final goal of the game. Although the Blue Devils put on a valiant effort, with freshman goalkeeper Nicholas Hernandez deterring most of the Wolfpack’s attempts, it was the away team that secured this close victory.

“We needed to be more confident in our own abilities,” said sophomore left back Brian Yeung. “We can not be afraid to take shots, but other than that, we played really well and with a lot of passion.”

Following this game, the Blue Devils will go on to play the Bolles Bulldogs on Monday, Dec. 4, while the Wolfpack battle the Episcopal Eagles on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
