Q&A: Class of 2021 Presidential Candidate Charlie Wheeler
JAKE NACHMAN | APRIL 16, 2018 | Q&A
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (SCPDA) — The 2018 election season is here, along with an incoming group of class officer hopefuls. Be an informed voter and learn about your potential class officers
DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: What is your motivation for running for sophomore class president?
CHARLIE WHEELER: I saw that I could make changes and I saw that I did not like how our government was being run at the moment. I decided that I wanted to make a change and I realized that I could so that is what I want to do.
DA: Why should the freshman class elect you into office?
CW: I want to make changes. My promise is I will get them all done. I want to establish volunteer positions within the class for photography and videography. I want to get artists to make posters and all kinds of art for pep rallies and overall a better spirited class.
DA: What does being a leader mean to you?
CW: To me it means to get everybody involved. It doesn’t mean to stand over people and tell them what to do, it means to be there when people need you. To show them that you care and you want to help the achieve what they want to achieve.
DA: What personality traits do you possess that will help you succeed as the sophomore class president?
CW: When I put my mind to something I don’t easily give up on it. If i really want something I will get it, that is my main quality. I am a really down to earth person, I like to talk to anyone who will talk to me and I feel like that will definitely play to my advantage.
DA: What are your major ideas and goals for the upcoming year if you are elected?
CW: I believe our class is stacked with talent but we don’t use it all to our advantage as much as we could. I want to create a class website so we can stay more connected. From there we can do things such as find photos, see how we can get involved, find volunteer positions, find a peer tutor, and create calendar.
DA: How would you balance the responsibilities of this job with school work and extracurricular activities?
CW: Obviously school is always first but that does not mean that we cannot get things done. Delegation is something that we can go into more, I think that other class officers can help carry the load if it comes to that but I definitely believe I can get everything done.
DA: What experience do you have that will help you in this position?
CW: I believe that I am a natural leader. I don’t have a strong leadership position under my belt but I do have smaller leadership positions in my community like volunteering with kids, working with them, and showing them how to do things. I did a hiking trek in New Mexico and I was a leader there and I helped boost the morale.
DA: That’s all of the questions. Thank you for your time.
